• Building Work and Change of Staff Development Day

  The run-up to Christmas starts here!
  
  Half term holiday has finished and the new term brings building works to the school. We will post regular updates on the progress of our new disabled toilet and care room. Here's a pic of the hole in the wall!
  
  As with all the others, this term is very busy with lots of learning to fit in. Here we go...
  
  Building works update:
  The building contractors Rok have entered administration and therefore work has stopped on site. We hope a resolution will come soon and so the hole can be filled!!

  Hammonds will start on the project on 29/11/10.
  
  We have changed one of our Staff Development Days. We had planned to have Tuesday 26th April 2011 as a SDD but with the Royal Wedding giving us another bank holiday on the 29th we think that having the children in for just 2 days that week wouldn't be enough to get some good learning done. Therefore we have postponed the SDD on the 26th April and this will now be a normal school day for everyone. We have rearranged our SDD for the 28th February 2011. Children will not be in school that day.

• Sport Relief Day 19th March 2010

  We had a great day on Friday. The turn out for the Sport Relief Mile was excellent. Children and adults ran together and it was great to see the smiles of achievement as everyone crossed the finish line. The planned activities for the afternoon were slightly scuppered by the weather but we all improvised and dancing, indoor hoola hooping, table tennis and table rugby were enjoyed. Miss Milree's tiddlywinks event was particularly well received. We raised just over £200. Well Done to everyone.

  

• HI-FIVES ALL ROUND FOR STALBRIDGE'S CHAMPION GIRLS

  The annual Sturminster pyramid netball tournament was played last Thursday in bright sunshine on the Stalbridge netball courts. Pupils from, Child Okeford, Hazelbury Bryan, Okeford Fitzpaine, Shillingstone, Stalbridge and William Barnes School competed in a closely fought competition. Tournament organiser Mr McAney said, "We had over 50 children taking part in a great afternoon of sport. They all seemed to have a great time and the final, which was a closely contested affair between Stalbridge and Hazelbury Bryan, demonstrated a very good standard of netball."
  Stalbridge Primary School ran out the eventual winners and now head off to the North Dorset Netball tournament, which will be held at Bryanston School in late March.

  We started hot school meals today! It went off smoothly - everyone got their meal and all seemed to enjoy it. Mrs Lane and Mrs Bollen and our lunchtime supervisors had everything organised well.

  

• Hot Chocolate, Cookies, PJs, Teddies and Stories at Bedtime for World Book Day.

  Pupils at Stalbridge Primary School celebrated last Thursday's world book day by returning to school long after normal closing time. The children, along with their teachers, parents and school governors returned for an evening of story telling by invited members of the local community. Treasure Island, The Cat in the Hat and The Gruffalo, where among the featured story books enjoyed by the pupils aged 5 to 11, who returned to school after 6.30pm.
  "It was a fantastic evening," enthused Aaron aged 8. "I really liked my story about Horrid Henry and the hot choc. Headteacher Michael Allen added, "It was a really great evening and a lovely way to celebrate World Book Day. I would like to say a big thank you to all the members of our Stalbridge community who came in to read for the children. They brought the books to life for the children and they had a wonderful time."
  
  Back in school the following day many of the children were joined by their parents or grandparents for a story writing session. The grown-ups worked alongside their children writing a series of adventure stories designed for inclusion in a school anthology of story writing. For many it was a trip down memory lane and also a super opportunity to gain a first hand insight into the way writing is taught in schools nowadays.
  "I do really think this will help me help my child with his reading and writing from now on," commented one parent. "The Hot Chocolate was lovely."

  

• Christmas Festivities Galore!

  We've been having a great week enjoying Christmas things. The Nativity Performance was wonderful and the Church Carol Service too.
  The choir have been brilliant. They've sung at the Pyramid Carol Concert and for the residents of The Old Rectory. Here's a picture of them with the ladies and gents.
