June 2014

16th June 2014

Dear Parents/Guardians

Hello everyone!

Here's some new information and all the dates for the last weeks of the academic year 2013/14.

Academic Year 2014/15
There are a few changes for next year. Class teachers will be as follows:

Year R - Mrs Jones
Year 1 - Miss Lafferty
Year 2 - Miss Porter
Year 3 - Mrs Walker/ Mrs Cuff
Year 4 - Mrs Padfield/ Mrs Brown*
Year 5 - Miss Gould
Year 6 - Miss Swaine

* Mrs Brown will still be on maternity leave in September. We are in the process of
recruiting a teacher to temporarily cover for Mrs Brown.

We will ensure that all children have time with their new teachers this term to get to know each other.

Mrs Saville will be at school for the first week of the autumn term then will leave on maternity.

At the end of the summer term we will say goodbye to Mrs Dawn Miller. Dawn has worked at the school as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant for 14 years. She's off to spend more time on her family farm. Dawn will be missed, she has made a fantastic contribution to the education of many children.

Staff in School Training Day - Monday 21st and Tuesday 22nd July
A reminder that on the above dates the school is closed for children - you're chance to go on holiday earlier than other schools!
The school is open for children on Monday 7th July, a day we had previously communicated that we were shut.

Gardening etc
On Wednesday 25th June we have some students from the Gryphon School coming to help us with sprucing up our outside areas, Miss Elsworth will keep them busy and would welcome any extra hands from parents or relatives to help with gardening, fence paintings etc. We could always do with some extra help.Could you spare an hour or two? Just turn up anytime from 9-12, 1-3 and we'll hand you a brush, trowel and definitely a cup of tea!

Sports Day - Thursday 3rd July
Everything starts at 1.15pm. Your child has been assigned a house team (red - Corfe, yellow - Maiden, green - Lulworth, blue - Sherborne). We'd love competing children, if possible, to wear a t-shirt sporting their team colour and we'd like parents and relatives attending sports day to support a team too by wearing colours, waving flags, bringing mascots etc. You may even like to paint your face! All children will compete in sports events and then there will be sprints and relays on the track before our Olympic style presentation ceremony! If we are unlucky with the weather we will make a decision by 11.30am and text out to you.

School Fayre
The PTA will be running a summer fayre after sports day, with various stalls and refreshments - more details to follow!

School Trips
We haven't organised a whole school trip this year - we'll do it again next year. Therefore each class is off on different trips. Here's where they're off to:

Year 1 - Weymouth Sea Life Centre
Year 2 - Studland with Reception
Year 3 - Stourhead with Year 5
Year 4 - have been to the Mash Up Festival
Year 5 - Stourhead with year 3
Year 6 - have had their residential at Brenscombe

All years are now having swimming lessons. Please could you ensure that children have their swimming things on the right day and let us know if they are not able to go swimming - we won't be able to make phone calls if kit is forgotten.
Swimming pool hire - we sent out a letter about swimming pool hire before half term. I hope you've all seen it.

Breakfast Club/After School Club
A reminder of prices for breakfast club this term are:
8-8.50am £3 per session or £12 for the week

Hot School Meals - Taster session for Year R and 1 - 9th July
From September 2014 all children in Year R, 1 and 2 will be eligible to have a hot school meal at no charge. We will send out some information on this later. At the taster session Local Food Links will have some information to give out.

Non-Urgent Messages for the Office
If you have a message for the office or for a member of staff that is non urgent, you are able to text this to the number that you currently receive messages from.

Spare Clothes
If you have any outgrown school uniform (including girls and boys socks and pants) we would appreciate them in school. Unfortunately accidents happen and it's useful to have clean clothes to be able to change children.

Yours sincerely
