Cleanest classroom - Year 1
Swimming Most classes have been able to start their clubs and lessons. We hope that the weather will improve so that all children can enjoy the pool. Have you paid for your swimming lessons? Please contact the office shortly to make payment. I will be contacting you if your payment remains outstanding. Like all schools, we rely on parents paying a contribution for swimming and we are fortunate that we don't have to include travel costs. Thank you for your support. . Dangerous games /APPS on SMART PHONES Recently I informed you that we had received reports of dangerous APPs being accessed by children. I have had reports that secondary school children have accessed a game online called 'Blue Whale'. This game starts very innocently but leads to very serious issues and consequences. Please be aware and check your child's device/ monitor internet use. The link below lets you see these apps and reviews the dangers. https://www.net-aware.org.uk/ Election news On Monday, Oscar led his assembly on the General Election, giving children information about the main political parties. Some pupils then nominated themselves, linking to a political party and were elected to be the Headteacher / Deputy Head teacher for the day. All children voted! Well done to everyone who took part. Winners will be announced on Monday, though we don't predict a hung parliament here.
NON- UNIFORM DAY - Wear purple for JIA (Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis) Well done to everyone who came in purple to support JIA. We raised £216.68!
Bikes/ Scooters We are pleased to see so many children riding to school. Please don't let your child ride onthe playground. All children, including pre-school children, are not allowed to ride on the playground and will be asked to stop. Thanks for your cooperation.
Phonics Screening Year 1 and 2 Next week, all Year 1 children and some Year 2 children will take part in phonics screening activities.
Grandparents Day Thursday 22nd June 9.05 am - 11.30am - Read and Reflect We have attached a letter inviting Grandparents to school on the above date. Last year was a great success. We hope that we can welcome as many Grandparents as possible to our school on the above morning. Please let us know how many people will be attending.
The Big Me Day Friday 23rd June On Friday 23rd June, we are holding our Big Me day, in aid of Action aid, led by the school council. All term we are thinking about our own future selves using the value 'Aspire'. On Big Me day, we would like the children to dress in the occupation that they would like to have when they are an adult. They might decide to dress as police officers, nurses, scientists and so on. All their outfits must relate to an occupation and can be as creative as they like. Action Aid support children around the world who are in deprived areas and may not have the opportunities that we do. Please can the children bring £1 to support this cause.
Our Values - Aspire This term we focus on the value 'Aspire'. All the pupils have thought about their ambitions for the future and considered people, including family members, who have inspired them.
Collective worship and learning behaviours This term, our focus for worship is trust. The children will learn about Bible stories focusing on this theme and think about trusting God as we face changes. Our learning behaviour focus this term is the planning and thinking owl. All the children will be thinking about moving up to their new classes. Having the skills to plan and having trust in God.
Thought for the week Every week, we have a special focus for thinking and prayer. This week, we were considering the people affected by the London tragedy. Our bible verse comes from the book of Romans 'Pray at all times' ...Romans 12 v 12.
That's all our news for this week.
Kind regards Sarah Lafferty-Jenkins Headteacher
