Stalbridge Church of England Primary School

16 Dec 2016

Dear Parents,

Here's our final news for this term! Thank you very much for all your support to the staff team here. We have had a fantastic and enjoyable term and a great couple of Christmas weeks. I hope that you have enjoyed our carol concerts and Nativity performances. See you back at school on Wednesday 4th January 2017.

House point competition
As you may know, all the children are in a school 'house', named after a castle in Dorset. We reward the children with house points and add these totals up each week during assembly. 'House' competitions help us to work as a team across the age groups. The end of term results tell us which house have won overall.
Here are the totals;
Lulworth (Green): 1,107
Corfe (Red): 1,036
Maiden (Yellow): 993
Sherborne (Blue): 1,105

We gave out 100% attendance certificates today. We want to praise all the boys and girls for improved attendance over all. Thank you to parents for keeping in touch with us when your child is feeling unwell.

The school choir
The school choir have been very busy supporting the local community this term. They performed very well at the Pyramid Carol concert and visited residential homes to sing to the elderly members of the community. Mrs Franklin and I are so proud of the way that the children conduct themselves and interact with others.

They were a real pleasure to take out and about. We took the whole school to Dikes on Wednesday too. Well done to everyone for spreading the Christmas cheer.

PTA Christmas events
Thank you to the PTA for providing part of the costs towards our Christmas dinner. We had a lovely time together. The PTA has recently purchased a set of iPads and has funded the Science Dome. Thanks for all your support with this fundraising.

KS2 Girl's Football Mondays 12.00-12.30
Next term, Ruby White and I will be running a KS2 girls football club. Here's Ruby's advert.
On Monday lunchtime, KS2 girls will be taking part in a very exciting activity. It will take place on the field between 12-12.30 and all KS2 girls can join in. It'll be competitive; we want more girls to do what they love, because football lets you become your dreams. But we need more players! You will need warm PE clothes, shin pads and goalie gloves (if you want to be in goal).

At training we will warm up then do some passing and tackling.
It won't hurt and there are no slide tackles allowed. There are lots of supportive people to help you if you are worried or don't know how to play. Everyone is good so don't doubt yourself. Thank you for your time.
Ruby White Year 5
Please sign up in the usual way, when our club letter comes out next term.

As the weather turns colder, please make sure your children have warm PE kit with them. We recommend jogging bottoms (dark colour) and a school sweatshirt. Trainers are most suitable for outdoor lessons.

The Science Dome
On Thursday 5th January, we welcome the science dome to our school. All the classes will get the opportunity to enter the dome and see their learning brought to life. We would like to thank the PTA who has kindly funded this. More information can be found at

Safeguarding information
There have been lots of reports in the news about safeguarding and sports. All our staff and sports coaches are subject to enhanced safeguarding checks, known as Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). We follow our safeguarding policy very carefully, which can be found on the link below. We also teach the children how to keep themselves safe out and about and online. If you ever have any questions about safeguarding, you are welcome to speak to me or Mrs Padfield directly. Our policy can be found here

Year 4 musicianship programme
Every year, our Year 4 pupils get the chance to learn a musical instrument, provided by Dorset Music Service. This year, they will learn how to play the Ukulele. We are all looking forward to this. Sessions will start on Friday 13th January with a music teacher and the class teacher. The sessions conclude with a concert for parents later in the term.

Cleaner vacancies
We have a vacancy for a school cleaner. We are looking for two people to join our friendly team. The post is for two hours a day 3.00- 5.00pm. A link to our advert and application pack is found here. Please come and chat to us if you are interested in the posts.

Admissions policy 2018/19
We are beginning a six week consultation on our admissions policy for 2018, which can be found at consultation will end on 31st January 2017. If there are any objections, please contact the school office, who will direct you to the Office of the Schools Adjudicator. (OSA)

Believe- Discover- Aspire
Thank you very much for all your family work on our motto. We are gathering the ideas together to find common thoughts and values. We will display this work in Reception area shortly. Next term we will be exploring the word 'Discover' to think about what we specifically want our children to learn.
