19th November 2012
Here's some dates and information for this half term.
This week is National Anti-Bullying Week and Dorset Safeguarding Week. Throughout the week assemblies will focus on recognising and stopping bullying and every class will follow up assemblies with learning in class. Children's work on bullying will be displayed in the hall by Friday and you are welcome to come in and view it. I have posted links to websites and a parents guide on our website (news update section) and attached some information to this newsletter. In Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 we will also do some work on cyber bullying and safe social networking. I will post links to resources you can use at home with your children. We are running an information session on cyberbullying and internet safety for parents on Friday morning (23rd Nov) at 9am in the ICT room. It's a very informative session and I urge as many of you as possible to attend.
By law I have a duty to make you aware of our Safeguarding Children Policy. This policy sets out how the school safeguards and promotes the welfare of the children and young people in its care. The policy is available to view on our website (www.stalbridge.dorset.sch.uk
). Child Protection Procedures can be made available on request.
Mrs Saville will return from maternity leave in January 2013 and will teach Year 3, Woodpeckers, on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Mrs Padfield will continue to take Year 3 on Wednesdays.
We have appointed Miss Mandy Elsworth to the vacant post of Caretaker/Handyperson. We are delighted to appoint a familiar face for staff and children. Miss Elsworth and Mrs Debbie Cairns will make a great team ensuring a clean, safe and tidy learning environment for the children.
Parking in Duck Lane and Woodmills
The Governors and I would like to remind you to park considerately in Duck Lane and Woodmills at the start and end of school. It is important that emergency services can have access to these roads at all times and that residents of Duck Lane and Woodmills can enter and exit their homes and are not inconvenienced. Thank you.
If we have really bad weather and teachers cannot get to school then we may have to close the school. I make a decision about this by 7.30am. We notify parents initially by posting a message on our website then we and the PTA have a cascaded telephone call list to let everyone know. We text out to parents as soon as possible with the same message. We only post a message, telephone and text when the school is to be closed. No message, no telephone call, no text means that the school is open. As an extra check the Dorset for You website will post a list of closed schools (http://mapping.dorsetforyou.com/closedservices
Thank you to those who came to bedtime story evening and the book fair, these events raised £550 to go towards the purchase of some school books.
Children in Need
Then school raised £196.89 on Children in Need Day. Daisy Parker, Year 4 was the school's champion hula hooper - unfortunately my and Mr McAney's practice didn't pay off. Thank you to Dikes for providing a great start to the day with bacon sandwiches and the PTA for the tea, coffee and hot chocolate.
Please read the PTA's letter attached to this newsletter. The PTA do a fantastic job for all the school's children and their fundraising has contributed to the ongoing running of the swimming pool, the updating of the school's computers and books for the library among other things.
Our Christmas church service is on Thursday 20th December at 9.10am, all are welcome. There will also be a Christingle service on Thursday 13th December at 9.10am.
This year it's our older children's turn to entertain us with a nativity play. They will perform for parents on Thursday 20th December in the afternoon and again in the evening. More details nearer the time.
The PTA is kindly cooking us all a Christmas lunch at Stalbridge Village Hall on the last day (21st December). A letter with more details is attached to the PTA newsletter.
There will be no after school clubs during the last week of term, clubs will finish Friday 14th December.
