29th November 2010
A few reminders and some new information for you.
Change of Staff Development Day
We have changed one of our Staff Development Days. We had planned to have Tuesday 26th April 2011 as a SDD but with the royal wedding giving us another bank holiday on the 29th we think that having the children in for just two days that week wouldn't be enough to get some good learning done. Therefore we have postponed the SDD on the 26th April and this will now be a normal school day for everyone. We have rearranged our SDD for the 28th February 2011. Children will no be in school that day.
We are pleased that Hammonds will be taking over the building of the new disabled toilet and care room. They will start straight away. Ground works for the pre-school building will start next week with the building itself (a pre-built structure) being sited during the Christmas holidays. The contractors for this work will have a compound on the school field and will not affect the day to day workings of the school.
Congregational Church Tree Festival
All pupils in the school have made a Christmas tree decoration to hang on trees at the above festival. The Congregational Church will be open over the weekend (4th, 5th December) to view the trees and other activities will be on including a children's 'Wise Man's Journey' and a candlelit carol service at 4pm on Sunday 5th. In the following week the trees and decorations will be sold/auctioned off and proceeds will be split between all participating groups.
PTA meeting minutes will now be available to look at on our website. A reminder that the disco takes place 10th December, the Christmas Fayre on 12th December and the Stalbridge late night shopping on Friday (3rd).
Our Christmas church service is on 16th December at 9.10am, we welcome all members of the community to join us. The PTA is kindly cooking us all a Christmas lunch at Stalbridge Village Hall on the last day (17th December), a reminder that contributions of £1.50 per child should be brought into school by this Friday (3rd December).
Possible School Closure due to Bad Weather
If we have really bad weather and teachers cannot get to school then we may have to close the school. I make a decision about this by 7.30am. We notify parents initially by posting a message on our website then we and the PTA have a cascaded telephone call list to let everyone know. We text out to parents as soon as possible with the same message. We only post a message, telephone and text when the school is to be closed. No message, no telephone call, no text means that the school is open. As an extra check the Dorset for You website will post a list of closed schools (http://mapping.dorsetforyou.com/closedservices).
Wrap up warm!
