Cleanest classroom - Year 1

Special mentions to - All our house captains for helping with the new entrants evening. They spoke to the adults with maturity. We are proud of you all.

Playtime resources
Can you help us to provide some playtime resources? The children enjoy the telephones (large handsets not old mobiles) and computer keyboards. They also like any role play resources, for example, cookers, chalk boards, pop up tents, children's wheelbarrows/ gardening resources. If you can help, please let the office know. The school council will be working on purchasing new sports toys for playtimes too.

Uniform Code - Haircuts
Please do respect our uniform code including suitable haircuts. Extreme haircuts (very short) are not suitable for school .By sending your child to our school, you are agreeing to follow our simple and fair uniform rules. Thank you.

Year 5 and 6 Sailing
On Monday 15th May, Year 5 went to the Andrew Simpson Sailing Club in Portland. We went on the bus and as we got there we were given our wetsuits and got on the boats. The water was freezing and the wind was strong, however, it was still very fun. Two groups of boys managed to capsize their boat; the lucky Ruby White won the best sailor. Year 5 enjoyed their sail for a fiver trip and behaved exceptionally well. They made the school proud and all hope they can go again in Year 6.

Tennis Festival
Well done to all the children who took part in the Sturminster Area Mini Tennis Festival at the high school. Mrs Chant was very proud of the Year 3 and 4 children who thoroughly enjoyed their day.

Swimming Gala
Good luck to our Year 4 swimmers who will compete in a swimming gala on Tuesday at Clayesmore School.

Kwik Cricket
A team of Year 3 and 4 children will compete in the North Dorset Kwik Cricket Skills Festival on Friday 26th May at Bryanston School. Best of luck to all the children.

Homework for Summer Term 2
After half term, the only homework which school will expect from all classes is

  • Reading

  • Spellings

  • Times tables practice

There will be no written homework set for any of the children during summer term 2. We would prefer it if your children had the opportunity to spend time enjoying the good weather and some family time. As a school, we want to promote a healthy lifestyle. If you would like additional work to do, we will provide you with some websites and online resources.

Good Luck to Year 6
Year 6 are off on residential next week. We have been preparing for the challenge all week. The children are ready for the challenge of rock climbing, abseiling and raft building. Staying away from home is equally as challenging. Miss Swaine, Mrs Chant, Mr Hunt, Canon William Ridding, Mrs Lane and myself will be accompanying them all. Let's hope the weather is good.

Year 1 Assembly
Year 1 parents are invited to join us in our celebration assembly on Wednesday 24th May at 2:30pm.

Thank you
We raised £90 from our 'wear what you want' day yesterday. Thank you very much for your kind donations. We will be buying home reading books with this money.

PTA News
There is still time to buy a ticket for the 80's Disco this Saturday at Stalbridge Hall. We have a cake sale on Thursday 25th May after school. Donations of cakes would be gratefully received and can be taken into the office from Wednesday onwards.

Mrs Bollen
We are pleased to say that Mrs Bollen is on the mend. She has a sore arm and will be away from school for a short while. Thank you to all the parents who rushed to help us and have passed on kinds words for her.

That's all our news for this week. We finish for half term at the usual time of 3.15pm on
Friday 26th May.

Kind regards

Sarah Lafferty-Jenkins
Headteacher
