Monday 23rd May 2016
Dear Parents and Carers,
We have reached the last week of this half term already! This letter should give you all the information which you need to finish this term and begin the next. Please check our website too, at www.stalbridge.dorset.sch.uk
for more information. If you do have any queries or questions, pop into the office and we will be happy to help. The best time to catch teachers for a longer chat or update is after school, though messages can be left at the office in the morning.
Well done to Year 6, who completed their SATs recently. All the children should be proud of the way they tackled the challenge and supported one another. Thanks to Mrs Chant for supplying the great breakfasts each morning. Well done to Mrs Padfield, who helped the children to continue to stay calm and relaxed throughout the week. We are very proud of our Year 6 children, for their kindness, resilience, determination and good humour, which we see every week, including during SATS week. You have all earnt a very good break! Well done to Year 2, who have completed their SATS too.
Brenscombe Residential trip
Year 6 children are off to Brenscombe this week for lots of exciting outdoor sports. This will be a great opportunity to relax and have fun together. Staff will be keeping the office informed of how things are going throughout the week. We will be adding news to the website too. Thank you to Reverend William Ridding, who is joining us for the week.
Mandy has been very busy preparing the swimming pool for our lessons. Please make your donation as soon as possible. Without your financial support, we may not be able to meet the running costs of the pool as we rely on this each year. We think that the oldest children may be ready to go in this week and everyone else can follow after half term. We will let you know in plenty of time so that kits can be ready. Don't forget that all children need;
- Swimming costume (one piece) or swimming shorts (not board shorts).
- Swimming hat
- Long hair must be tied up
- Flip flops or similar that can be kept pool side.
- A towel
- A bag for wet clothes
- Younger children- spare underwear can come in handy
We have lots of swimming aids and toys here at school.
A copy of the timetable is shown below and a new letter detailing the clubs for next term is attached. Thanks very much to all the parents and carers who have agreed to help us with our lessons. Please note that we don't encourage spectators for swimming clubs because this can distract the children from safety rules.
After School Club
Well done to Year 3 and Year 4, who have risen to the attendance challenge. They may achieve the highest totals for the whole year! We are very proud of all the efforts made by so many children for good attendance. We look forward to sharing our 100% certificates at the end of this week. Please encourage your child to work towards 100%.
Refugee day and Den Day
Last Tuesday, the whole school came together to learn about Refugees, their needs and ways which we might help them. You can find more out about talking to your child on this topic on the Espresso website.
Our Save the Children 'Den Day' is on Thursday 16th June. Save the children run lots of projects for refugees, including safe spaces to play and providing schools. Please continue to send in any resources for Den Day, including cardboard boxes and tubes, old sheets and blankets, crates, and tarpaulin. Many thanks.
Playtimes and lunchtimes
As you know, our oldest children have carried out surveys to identify what children like and dislike about playtimes. Lots of children wanted more role play resources. Thanks very much to the Hart family for supplying lots of telephones. We are still looking out for old keyboards (which do not need to be working) chalk boards and dressing up clothes. Please see the office if you can help.
Stalbridge sporting heroes!
- Year 4 swimmers swam very well with a strong team spirit at Clayesmore recently. Thanks to all the parents who transported children and stayed to cheer them on.
- Year 3 and 4 tennis players earnt tennis tournament certificates last Thursday at Sturminster Newton high school.
- Year 3 and 4 cricketers are out on Friday. Good luck! Thanks to Colin Moore for helping with this event.
- Year 5 and 6 are off to Weymouth for their sailing days.
- Year 2 are off to William Barnes Primary for a 'Run-around-Rounders' day too.
- Well done to all the Tae Kwon Do children, who were recently awarded their new belts. It was wonderful to celebrate these in our Achievers assembly.
- All classes are on the Road to Rio, as we record our journey through daily lessons
- All classes will earn new swimming badges next term
The school Sports Day will be held on Thursday 23rd June and will commence at 1:15pm. Children will be required to have their PE kit in school that day and also a coloured t-shirt to match their house (Lulworth - green, Sherborne - blue, Corfe - red and Maiden - yellow). Please see your child's teacher if you are unsure which house your child is in.
Jigsaw Personal, Social and Health Education.
Next term, our unit of learning is called 'Changing me'. This includes transition to new classes, but also focuses on the sex education unit for all age groups. You will receive an additional letter which gives you all the information you need about these lessons.
Thank you for continuing to send your children ready for school in their correct kit. Despite the changeable weather, it is good to see the children in summer uniform. Children should have long hair tied up and sandals need to be worn with socks. If you are unsure, please check our website or ask the class teacher. We discourage temporary tattoos as well as nail varnish. Sun hats and sunglasses are encouraged. You are welcome to send in sun cream, which children can apply themselves.
It was lovely to meet the new parents on Wednesday evening. Thank you very much to the PTA for providing refreshments. Well done to Ben, Jessica, Freya, Millie, Imogen and Caitlin for helping to lead the event. You were a credit to the school. We look forward to meeting our new Otters class next month for their taster sessions. This year, we are hosting a local authority 'school readiness' course for pre-schoolers. Ask Debbie Chant at the pre-school for more information.
Goodbye and good luck
Mrs Debbie Cairns is leaving us at the end of this week. She has worked with us for many years at the school and has always been on hand to help out with lots of different things. She leaves to spend more time with her family. We wish her a fond farewell and good luck. We welcome Mrs Viney, who will take on the role after half term.
Getting ready for the next academic year…
We are already making plans for the next academic year in the autumn. We are pleased to share the news that Mrs Jones (in Reception) is expecting a baby. Congratulations to her! We have begun to recruit a replacement teacher to take over from her during the autumn term and will keep you (and new YR parents) updated with this.
We have also appointed Mr Tom Barton, a full time teacher, who will start with us in September. We will share the details of his class, and the teachers for other classes, shortly after half term. Our transfer day is on Thursday 7th July.
