SUMMER TERM (2nd HALF) NEWSLETTER
Welcome back to the last term of the academic year 2010/11. We were blessed with good weather over the holiday and I hope everyone had a good break and are ready for a very busy term.
Here's some new information and all the dates for events.
All years are now having swimming lessons. Please could you ensure that children have their swimming things on the right day and let us know if they are not able to go swimming - we won't be able to make phone calls if kit is forgotten.
Clubs will continue as per the schedule we sent out last term and as on our website. The summer term is very busy with classes going on trips and teachers taking teams to tournaments etc. It may be necessary to cancel a club for a week. We will inform the children and text out to you at least a couple of days in advance where possible.
A reminder of prices for breakfast club this term are:
8-8.50am £3 per session or £12 for the week
8.25-8.50am £1 per session or £4 for the week
Unfortunately we will not be able to give refunds if for some reason your child misses a morning.
On Wednesday 29th June we have some students from the Gryphon School coming to us to help us continue our mural painting programme. Last year when students came they joined Mr Fieldhouse and Mrs Ellis and painted the lovely jungle scene on one of the mobile classrooms. We're going to make a start on the other mobile this time. We could always do with some extra help. Could you spare an hour or two? Just turn up anytime from 9-12, 1-3 and we'll hand you a brush.
Our PTA school fete is on a sunny Saturday 9th July from 2pm onwards. There's lots for everyone to enjoy - we hope to see you there!
Non Uniform Day
There will be a non school uniform day on Friday 1st July in return for donations for the fete. Specific details to follow from the PTA.
Staff in School Training Day Monday 11th July
A reminder that on the above date the school is closed for children.
Sports Day - Thursday 14th July
Everything starts at 1.15pm. Your child has been assigned a house team (red - Corfe, yellow - Maiden, green - Lulworth, blue - Sherborne). We'd love competing children, if possible, to wear a t-shirt sporting their team colour and we'd like parents and relatives attending sports day to support a team too by wearing colours, waving flags, bringing mascots etc. You may even like to paint your face! All children will compete in sports events and then there will be sprints and relays on the track before our Olympic style presentation ceremony! If we are unlucky with the weather we will make a decision by 11.30am and text out to you. Our reserve day is Friday 15th 9.30 start
Academic Year 2011/12
There are no changes to personnel for next year. Teachers are staying in the same year groups. We are making one change to where classes are taught. The current Year 4 classroom will next year be the Year 3 classroom. We need to make various modifications to one of the mobiles to improve the acoustics, the mobile most suitable for these modifications is the current Year 4 one. New carpets, new boards, new windows and an amplification system will be fitted. Therefore the current Year 3 class will next year be Year 4 in the mobile they are in now. Children will meet their new teachers and see their new classroom on our 'Shuffle Up' morning - Monday 18th July.
Tesco and Sainsbury Tokens
Thank you for collecting tokens. Our Tesco total has been phenomenal - over 15,000 collected. The Tesco vouchers will be used to purchase a range of resources for curriculum areas. Sainsbury vouchers will be used to purchase sports and play equipment.
Wild West Day
Lunch on Monday 4th July has a Wild West Day theme. Please check your school meal menu for the special food choices. Children can download a Native American Headdress or a sheriff's badge from the Cygnet Catering website (www.cygnetcatering.co.uk), colour it in and wear it for lunch on the day
We are very proud of all the arts activities that our children experience. We'd like to celebrate the arts by inviting you along to an Arts Day on Friday 8th July from 1.15pm onwards. Parents/relatives can visit classes to see arts activities in progress and then join the school for an Art Show in the school hall from 2pm. We will open our Art Gallery and re-run the art and fashion show at the school fete on the next day.
Mrs Padfield has been working hard putting together a helping guide to Primary School Mathematics for Parents of KS2 Children. The guide is available on our website on the Parents Section and has sections for every year group.
Problem Solving Week
In the week beginning Monday 27th June children will be concentrating on problem solving and in particular money problems in their maths lessons. Mrs Padfield and Miss Swaine are organising this week and will be giving you more details soon.
Web Site Calendar
We have had a calendar section put on our website. On this calendar you can find upcoming events and notes. We will update the calendar on a weekly basis.
As usual we have accumulated a lot of lost property - especially jumpers as they are taken off in the hot weather and left lying around! All named items are returned to children quickly. We will put out un-named items of lost property on tables in the playground on Wednesday this week. You may take unclaimed items and may wish to make a donation to school funds in return.
