July 2010

Dear Parents/Carers

The end of term is approaching quickly - too quickly for us as there's lots to fit in. Here's just a few new bits of information for you plus some reminders about things we've let you know about already.

Year 6 trip to Brenscombe
On Monday Year 6 go off on their residential trip to Brenscombe. Mr McAney will be with them all week. Mr Allen will go on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (probably the rainy days!) and Miss Milree will go on Thursday and Friday. Mrs Squires and Mrs Miller will also be going. We hope they all have a good time.

Geography and Money Days
While Year 6 are away we're running a couple of special themed days. Geography day is Tuesday 30th June and children will be taking a trip around the world visiting different countries all within the school!
It's My Money Week next week and on Thursday we will be having activities all day learning about spending, saving and giving. Children from different year groups will work together.

Painting
On Wednesday 30th June we have some students from the Gryphon School coming to us to help us paint a mural on an outside wall. Last year when students came they painted the lovely mural outside Reception classroom. This year we hope they will be able to paint a jungle scene on our mobile classrooms so that our giraffe doesn't feel so lonely! Mr Fieldhouse will be co-ordinating the day. As we've got the paints out we'd love some help to really make the mural stand out. Could you spare an hour or two? Just turn up anytime from 9-12, 1-3 and we'll hand you a brush!

School Fete
Our PTA school fete is on a sunny Saturday 10th July from 2pm onwards. There's lots for everyone to enjoy - we hope to see you there!

Non Uniform Day
You will receive a note from your child's class about the contribution to a stall for the school fete. In return for donations we are having a non-school uniform day on Friday 9th July. There's not a set theme but should England be in the final on the 11th we could all dress up to support the team

.. Brazil-Argentina is my bet.

Hot School Meals
The cost of hot school meals will be increasing from September from £2.10 to £2.15. We start hot school meals on the 1st day back. Your orders for the first two weeks will need to be with us by Monday 19th July.

Staff In School Training Day - Monday 12th July
A reminder that on the above date the school is closed for children.

Sports Day - Tuesday 13th July
Everything starts at 1.15pm. Your child has been assigned a house team (red - Corfe, yellow - Maiden, green - Lulworth, blue - Sherborne). We'd love competing children, if possible, to wear a t-shirt sporting their team colour and we'd like parents and relatives attending sports day to support a team too by wearing colours, waving flags, bringing mascots etc. You may even like to paint your face! All children will compete in sports events and then there will be sprints and relays on the track before our Olympic style Presentation Ceremony! If we are unlucky with the weather we will make a decision by 11.30am and text out to you. Our reserve time is Thursday morning 9.30am start.

Sunny Afternoons
We've had great weather recently and we've noticed that many parents/carers are turning up to collect their children well before 3.15pm to enjoy the sun on our school field. Please remember that children will be having lessons right up to 3.15pm, using the field for sports and the play equipment. Please do not disturb lessons.

Joanna Vear
Joanna has worked at the school for many years and has helped lots of children and lots of adults throughout this time. Recently Joanna has been running our parent Seal sessions - which anyone who has attended knows have been brilliant. Joanna is leaving the school to provide further employment with Dorset LA. We thank her for her service and wish her well.

Academic Year 2010/11
Apart from Mrs Vear there are no changes to personnel for next year. Teachers are staying in the same year groups. There are slight changes in Teaching Assistant support based on level of need. Children will meet their new teachers and see their new classroom on our 'Shuffle Up' morning - Wednesday 21st July. Year 6 will learn in the same classroom as they are in this year and Year 4 will move up to be Year 5 into this years Year 6 classroom - I hope all that makes sense!

Tesco and Sainsbury Tokens

Thank you for collecting tokens. Our Tesco total has been phenomenal - over 15,000 collected. The Tesco vouchers will be used to purchase sports equipment. Sainsbury vouchers will be used to purchase
