The Role of the Governing body
In simple terms, the Governors have a general responsibility for the management of the school. The Leadership Team make the day to day decisions about the running of the school. Governors are responsible for setting the budget, overseeing the curriculum, the appointment and dismissal of staff and deciding the policy on admissions.
School Development Plan. (SDP)
All schools are required to produce a plan each year. The Leadership Team, staff and governors discuss areas for development and targets and priorities are agreed. The plan is monitored throughout the year and contributions are given by our School Evaluation Partner (SEP), who is provided by the Local Authority. A summary of this years SDP is posted in the policies section of the website.
The Governors operate an open door policy and are more than happy to discuss any matters regarding school life . Parents are welcome to contact a governor direct. Parent Governors are often to be found at the school at the start and end of the school day.

The Governing Body of Stalbridge Primary SchoolThe Governing Body meets formally at least once a term, and minutes of these meetings are available to parents.
|
AdmissionsThe school has close links with Stalbridge Playgroup and strongly urges parents of pre-school children to make the most of the opportunities offered there. As children are about to start school they are invited to visit during the term before admission and the Head teacher is pleased to meet parents to discuss their children's future education.
The Governing Body seeks to admit children of primary school age living in the area normally served by the school, i.e. Stalbridge and Stalbridge Weston.
|
Admission Policy* For children starting school, Stalbridge Primary School has one admission date each year, at the beginning of the Autumn term in September.
* Children are admitted following their 4th birthday, initially on a part time, morning only basis for the Autumn term
* Children become full time in the second half of term, following their admission to school.
|
Over subscriptionThe number of intended admissions for 2012 will be 30 to comply with government legislation. Where applications for admission exceed the number of places available the following criteria will be applied, in the order set out below, to decide which children to admit:
* children living within the area normally served by the school ( the catchment area)
* children living outside the school's catchment area
Where there are too few places to satisfy all preferences in 1 and 2 above, the following priority will apply:
* Children who are "Looked After" by the Local Authority. The term "Looked After" specifically relates to children with either a care order (full or interim) or who are accommodated under Section 22 of the Children Act 1989.
* children with a Statement of Special Educational Needs will be considered in accordance with the 1996 Education Act
* where the child has a brother or sister currently attending the school at the time of admission
* where there are medical grounds (supported by a Clinical Medical Officer's report) for admitting the child
* all other children
