2nd April 2014
Here's a few bits of information for these last few days of this term and a 'head's up' on things for the new term after our Easter break.
We are delighted that Mrs Padfield will be available to teach four days a week in the summer term. She will teach in Year 3 Monday, Tuesday and Thursday afternoon and in Year 5 on a Wednesday. On Thursday mornings she will teach in Year 1 allowing Miss Lafferty to have leadership release time.
Congratulations to Mrs Saville who is expecting a second child in September.
Well done to everyone for their running on Sport Relief Day. With Dikes donating their profits and more from the bacon butty stall we raised together £280. Well done to Harry Rowett for winning the race, Daisy Parker for coming third just behind the second place person who had the advantage of very long legs and sharp elbows!
Our Eco Council will be holding a book swap this Friday afternoon in the school hall. Children can bring in a book they have read and finished with and swap it for another, another child has read and finished with. If children want to swap more books they are welcome to.
It's time to ready our swimming pool for the glorious summer we will enjoy! The pool and surrounds need a clean up and then Miss Elsworth can do what she need to do with chemicals, switch the heating on and we can wait for the water to warm up and be ready for swimming in after the first May Bank Holiday weekend.
The clean up bit we'd like a hand with; we'd also like a hand to get our outside areas ready for the summer term. If you can help with a bit of painting, weeding, laying bark etc we would really appreciate it. We are planning to carry out our clean up on Friday 11th, Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th April from 10am onwards. If you are able to spare any time please pop up. On the Friday Mrs Lane will run a crèche for parents who can help but need childcare from 10am-2pm.
After Easter we're expecting lovely summer weather and we will start to see children wearing our summer uniform. May we remind parents that children should wear black shoes or sandals (in summer), trainers or mules/flip flops are not suitable.
When the warm sun does arrive children should bring labelled hats to school to protect them from the sun.Suncream should be applied before school. Staff cannot apply suncream to your child.
Cycling and Scootering
As the weather gets better I'm expecting more children to cycle or scoot to school, this is open to all years. If children would like to cycle//scooter to school then they must abide by the following rules:
- I have my parent/carers permission to cycle/scooter to school.
- I must check by bicycle/scooter to ensure it is safe to use.
- I must wear a protective helmet while cycling.
- I must not cycle/scoot on school grounds.
- I must have my own cycle lock to lock my bike and helmet up with.
- I must not go to my bicycle/scooter during break or lunchtimes.
- I must take responsibility for my own bicycle/scooter while it is stored at school.
It is very important that children do not cycle/scoot on the school grounds. The potential for accidents is great. If you have pre-school children who have bicycles/scooters please ensure they also do not cycle/scoot around too.
During this term we have had teams competing in netball, football, cross-country and biathle competitions. Al competitors have represented the school with pride and enjoyment.
As part of the children's Personal, Social and Health Learning all children have a Sex and Relationship Education (SRE) unit or work. The units of work are age appropriate. The school's policy on SRE is available on our website (www.stalbridge.dorset.sch.uk
). It sets out what children learn at each age group.
We use a resource called JIGSAW to help us deliver our Personal. Social and Health Education. A powerpoint showing each year group's learning is also on the policies section of or website.
If you have any concerns or worries about what is being taught in your child's year group please see their class teacher.
Outdoor Play Equipment
The outdoor play equipment on the field is showing it's age and needs some work done before it is safe for us to use it again. We have this work in hand. In the meantime please do not let your children on the equipment before or after school.
It's out Easter Service tomorrow (Thursday 3rd April) at 9.10am at the church.Come and join us - we'd love to see you all there.
School finishes at 2.30pm on Friday and then we are back to school on Tuesday 22nd April.
