26th April 2011
I hope you enjoyed the Easter break. Here's a few things for this term.
I and everyone would like to thank the PTA for its fantastic work making the school grounds look brighter and more inviting. Flower beds have been weeded and planted, fencing painted, benches sanded and sealed. The environmental area has been readied for pond dipping and other outdoor learning and the swimming pool surround has been painted and will be ready soon for eager swimmers.
We hope to start swimming lessons for KS2 in the week beginning 2nd May. KS1 will start after half term. Teachers will be updating their Reach and Rescue training and the pool temperature is already 30°!
The pool is 40 years old this year and we would like to celebrate by inviting those who played their part in financing and building the pool in 1971 along to a pool party. If you know someone who was involved please could you let the office know the details so that we can contact them.
We will be celebrating the Royal Wedding on Thursday with several activities including a street party (see below). We will begin Thursday with a church service that William will base on the marriage service of Prince William and Kate Middleton. The service will explain the Christian marriage service and William would like a girl and a boy volunteer to take the part of bride and groom. If your child would like to take the part and you are happy with this then please put their name on the slip below, return it to school tomorrow and we will draw the names of the bride and groom out of a hat. We hope you will be able to join us for the church service at 9.10am.
Street Party - On Thursday lunchtime we are having a 'street party' on the school playground. This will take the place of our normal lunch. The PTA is providing food for the occasion. If you feel your child will not want the food provided please send in a packed lunch.
Unfortunately Daisy Duck passed away in the holidays. She became very ill and despite loving care and medicine she did not get better. Donald was very upset. To cheer up Donald a new duck arrived in the pond and they made friends instantly. We haven't a name for our new female duck yet, we will gather suggestions and name her soon.
Swimming clubs will start in the week beginning 2nd May. All other after school clubs will start week beginning 9th May unless otherwise informed. We will have a club letter out to you soon.
Now that summer is nearly here we are starting to see children wearing our summer uniform. May we remind parents that children should wear black shoes or sandals (in summer), trainers or mules/flip flops are not suitable.
When the warm sun does arrive children should bring labelled hats to school to protect them from the sun. Suncream should be applied before school. Staff cannot apply suncream to your child.
Just another reminder to encourage children to have healthy snacks at breaktime. Fruit or cereal bars etc are much better than crisps or chocolate.
We're hoping for a warm summer. Children will get thirsty during lessons and playtimes and it's important that they keep their water intake up. Please encourage your child to drink regularly. Water is available in classrooms and children need to remember to fill up their water bottles.
Cycling and Scootering
As the weather gets better I'm expecting more children to cycle or scoot to school, this is open to all years. If children would like to cycle/scooter to school then they must abide by the following rules:
1. I have my parent/carers permission to cycle/scooter to school.
2. I must check my bicycle/scooter to ensure it is safe to use.
3. I must wear a protective helmet while cycling.
4. I must not cycle/scoot on school grounds.
5. I must have my own cycle lock to lock my bike and helmet up with.
6. I must not go to my bicycle/scooter during break or lunchtimes.
7. I must take responsibility for my own bicycle/scooter while it is stored at school.
It is very important that children do not cycle/scoot on the school grounds. The potential for accidents is great. If you have pre-school children who have bicycles/scooters please ensure they also do not cycle/scoot around too.
